Thales Training & Simulation has signed a frame contract with Eurofighter Simulation Systems GmbH (ESS) for the supply of work packages for Eurofighter Typhoon aircrew synthetic training aids. The scope of this contract covers the supply of equipment and software for 31 simulators and reference systems for delivery to Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK over a nine-year period, with a total value in excess of Euro 200 million.
ESS is a joint venture company created to provide the Eurofighter Typhoon aircrew synthetic training aids. It incorporates organisations from the four partner nations participating in the Eurofighter programme, Thales Training & Simulation (UK), STN Atlas and CAB Elektronik (Germany), Indra (Spain) and Meteor (Italy). Under the contract the work packages that TT&S are to provide include the cockpit and linkage system, electrical power monitoring and distribution, host computer software, networking hardware & software, aural cue and communication, G-cueing systems, UK database and assembly, test, commissioning and acceptance of the UK simulators.
The first deliveries to the joint integration facility will occur in early 2003 and the first UK aircrew synthetic training aid (ASTA) will enter service in mid 2004. This contract is part of the ASTA frame contract, which was awarded to ESS by Eurofighter GmbH on 30 May 2001.
