New Mission Command Trainer to be demonstrated at DSEi

11 September 2001

Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp has unveiled its newest product for military training and mission rehearsal, the Mission Command Trainer (MCT), at the Defence Systems and Equipment International Exhibition (DSEi) in London today. This low-cost tactics simulator provides realistic command training, mission planning, and mission rehearsal in a virtual environment against an intelligent virtual enemy.

Using real-world, high-fidelity databases created by E&S, the MCT allows students to experience manoeuvres and battles while instructors observe and evaluate their performance. Each system features an instructor station networked together with as many student stations as needed. After-action review capabilities enable classroom debrief of manoeuvres.

Based on the successful Unit Level Tactics Trainer (ULTT), which is currently training helicopter commanders at the Royal Army School of Aviation in Middle Wallop, the MCT uses E&S's Ensemble II PC-based image generation system and off-the-shelf display components.

Fully reconfigurable, the system can be tailored to simulate all types of air and ground vehicles, providing training for aircraft, patrol, or flight command.

"Well-rehearsed battle drills are vitally important to effective military command," said David Figgins, E&S Simulation Group vice president. "We developed the Mission Command Trainer to allow this type of training without jeopardising personnel, equipment, or resources. The MCT's cost-effective configuration and adaptability will make it a valuable training tool for military operations around the world."
