Vickers reveals its FCLV solution at DSEi

13 September 2001

The design for Vickers Defence Systems' proposed Future Command and Liaison Vehicle (FCLV) has gone on show for the first time at DSEi.

Vickers is offering two vehicles, the RG-32M and RG-31 M, as options for the British Army's FCLV requirement. Both vehicles are currently undergoing initial trials as part of the £500,000 Risk Reduction and Trials contract awarded to Vickers Defence Systems in June 2001.

The trials programme means the vehicles are unavailable for DSEi but Vickers has produced a full-scale mock-up of the RG-32M, which is on show for the first time.

Sales and Marketing Director at Vickers Defence Systems, John Boughton, said: 'We wanted visitors from the UK MoD and from overseas to have an early opportunity to examine one of our vehicle options and the RG-32M mock-up allows them to do this.

'The Vickers option is based on proven, in-service wheeled vehicles. We are using the combined prime contractor and systems integration expertise of Vickers in the UK and our South African company, Vickers 0MG, in the development and integration of land systems.

'This will ensure that the RG-31M and RG-32M meet the requirements of the British Army and of the export market, whilst offering all our customers affordable solutions".

The RG-31M and RG-32M are a 'family' of vehicles with common components. The RG-31M and RG-32M are based on existing, in-service vehicles produced by Vickers 0MG.

More than 600 RG-32 Scout vehicles are in service with the South African Security Forces in addition to serving as part of United Nations (UN) missions throughout the world. RG-31 vehicles (including APO and Utility variants) have been successfully deployed with the UN in Bosnia and Lebanon.
