Swedish defence industries have delivered an armoured combat stealth demonstrator vehicle to FMV, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration. This programme has been known as SEP.
The industries in the integrated project team are: Hagglunds Vehicle, Bafors Defence (with Bofors Missiles, now part of Saab Bofors Dynamics), Saab Barracuda, and Saab Tech Systems.
Responsibility for the various sections of the project is as follows:
- Hagglunds Vehicle: chassis, electro-optical outlooks and project co-ordination
- Bofors Defence: turret and weapon
- Saab Barracuda: surface treatment and rapid camouflage system
- Saab Tech Systems: sensor system
The demonstrator is the result of SAT/Mark, a Swedish abbreviation for SignaturAnpassningsTeknik/Mark, which translates in English as Signature Management Technologies/ Ground. The programme has been carried out with close co-operation between industry, FMV (Swedish Defence Materiel Administration) and FOI (Swedish Defence Research Agency).
A new vehicle system has been developed with adaptations to achieve extremely low signatures in all wavelengths. Shaping for low signatures have been extensively used resulting in a silhouette which differs widely from any other armoured vehicle.
The demonstrator is currently under evaluation, particularly for its signature, after which requirement levels for future project signatures will be established.
