Vickers announces new light vehicle orders

14 September 2001

Vickers Defence Systems has received further orders for its successful RG-32 and RG-12 wheeled armoured vehicles.

A new order for the mine-protected RG-32 has been received from a Middle Eastern customer. A separate contract has been signed in the Middle East for the multi-role RG-12. The order follows the first sales of RG-12 within the Middle East earlier this year.

Sales and Marketing Director at Vickers Defence Systems, John Boughton, said: 'These new orders provide further endorsement of the quality and versatility of the wheeled armoured vehicles produced by our South African company, Vickers OMC.

'The RG-1 2 and RG-32 are in service with several nations around the world and have proved highly successful. Continuing customer confidence in these vehicles also provides an obvious boost to our efforts to supply new versions of the RG-32 to meet emerging requirements elsewhere".

More than 600 RG-32 vehicles are in service with the South African Security Forces and the United Nations. The vehicle crew is protected against 5.56x45mm NATO ball ammunition, grenades, firebombs, anti-personnel mines and side blasts. The five-seat version also offers protection against anti-tank mines and side blasts.

Over 700 RG-12 vehicles are in service with seven countries world-wide. Originally developed as a riot control and public order vehicle, the RG-12 is suitable for other applications including command vehicle, armoured ambulance, armoured logistics vehicle, paramilitary APO and surveillance vehicle.
