Increasing demands from customers and the general development of automotive technology, have led to the birth of a new Finnish Off-Road truck. Sisu has developed the first model in the Off-Road series in co-operation with the Finnish Defence Forces. A total of 140 Sisu High Mobility Tactical Vehicle (HMTV) 6x6 units have been supplied during 1998-99.

Now, at Eurosatory 2000 Sisu is introducing a successor to the 6x6, an 8x8 version. This four axle truck, with eight wheel drive and four wheel steering, is especially suitable for all kinds of road- and terrain transportation of containers. The truck can be equipped with a demountable platform, where the hook lift is integrated directly into the truck frame, which allows it to handle container type goods independently.
The main objective of the design has been to create a vehicle combining excellent mobility off- and on road, with a large load carrying capacity in extreme conditions and good adaptability to different operational tasks.
The Sisu HMTV Off-Road trucks is largely based on components made by Sisu and the automotive industry in general. The use of standard components brings economical operating costs under normal conditions and assures continued operation and maintenance in crises.
The Sisu Off-Road truck and its variants, are has civil applications. The model has been designed to operate in all climatic conditions and also conforms with general road traffic regulations and emission requirements.
