Harris Corporation announced at Eurosatory 2000 that it has been awarded an $8.4 million contract from the Danish Army Material Command for its Falcon II family of digital radios. Delivery of the high-frequency (HF) radio systems will be complete by December 2000.
In addition to the Falcon II RF-5800 HF radio Systems, Harris' RF Communications Division will supply its RF-671 OW Wireless Message Terminals for email capabilities. The email system will provide long-haul communications between the Danish Army and its troops engaged in peacekeeping missions around the world.
The automated HF systems provide an alternate communication path that works independently from public communication networks or satellites. This wireless system provides fast, reliable, error-free data, image and video transmission for long range communication.
As a member of NATO, Denmark wanted to standardise their communications systems on an advanced digital platform that is easily upgradeable for future NATO waveforms as found within the Falcon II radios. Harris is a major HF radio supplier to NATO and Partnership for Peace countries, many of which have already standardised on Harris systems. This standardisation has become increasingly important as countries modernise their communications capabilities for interoperability with NATO.
"We believe the procurement of additional Falcon II radios by the Danish Army is an important endorsement of this next generation system that is now in service with the US and a number of other NATO countries," said Dana Mehnert, vice president, managing director, International Government Sales, Harris Corporation.
