Alvis SCARAB Patrol unveiled

21 June 2000

Alvis is displaying their third Scarab variant for the first time at Eurosatory. The Scarab Patrol has a four man configuration well suited to demanding command and liaison roles.

The well-protected, high mobility Scarab Patrol vehicle includes a CUP-T manually operated remote weapon station, designed to mount 0.5 cal or 7.62mm MG. The weapon station is operated by the fourth crew member, (normally the commander) located close to the driver. This position has 360§ vision and good communication with the driver for patrolling command and control.

Scarab Patrol joins the Recce and Command variants already undergoing customer trials. The Scarab Recce, incorporating a full recce suite of TI, Navigation and BMS from SAGEM, remote sensor/weapon pod from Helio and Alvis integration was presented for Belgian trials in May this year.

Scarab command and recce have been trialled at the Armoured Trials Development Unit in the UK and the complete family will be offered for the UK's Future Command and Liaison Vehicles trials in 2001.

The interest in this vehicle has been high. The combination of protection, mobility and supportability bridges the gap between the 'armoured car' type vehicles with limited payload/protection and the tracked 6x6/8x8 group with a more dominant profile.
