M1000 heavy equipment transporter gets further order

23 June 2000

Systems & Electronics Inc. (SEI), a subsidiary of Engineered Support Systems, Inc has won a contract from the US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to produce an additional 173 M1000 units for the US Army National Guard. This brings the total systems under contract to 2,144. Production unit number 1,986 rolled out of the plant in May 2000.

M1000 HET semi-trailer

SEI is the sole producer of the United States Army's M1000 HET semi-trailer, designed to transport the Ml Series Main Battle Tank to and from the battlefield over roads, trails and cross country. The M1000 is currently in use by U.S. Army, US Army Reserve and National Guard.

With the M1000's high degree of flexibility, it can carry all types of tracked and wheeled vehicles, ISO containers and large bulk cargo to where they are needed.

The M1000, which can accommodate payloads up to 80 tons, is compatible with a variety of prime movers. It features two technological "firsts" in the Army's trailer inventory that ensure mobility and agility: long-stroke hydraulic suspension and fully automatic steering. The Ml000's rugged, pendular suspension and automatic, multi-axle steering have been tested by the US Army and proven under harsh, tactical conditions. This gives the manoeuvre commander the ability to quickly move his tank fleet and arrive at the battlefield prepared and combat ready.
