Matra BAe Dynamics preferred bidder for UK MoD's RAIDS

25 July 2000

Matra BAe Dynamics has been selected as the UK MoD's preferred bidder for its Rangeless Airborne Instrumented Debriefing System(RAIDS) requirement.

The MBD's Air Combat Training Inter-Operable Nato System (ACTIONS) has been chosen to supply RAF Fast Jet Squadrons with a new system that will allow pilots to train anywhere as long as co-operating aircraft are carrying similar equipment.

ACTIONS is based on an airborne electronic subsystem contained in a missile shaped pod and on a ground station subsystem for the debriefing of aircrew. Furthermore, a real time tracking station can be added to monitor training missions in real time.

This was very much a team effort between Matra BAe Dynamics, MLM (the Electronics Division of Israel Aircraft Industries) and Cubic Defence Systems of the US. Against a very tight DPA funding profile, value for money and a good technical solution were among the deciding factors in the competition.

Contract award is expected in the next months.
