Westland Lysander, the "Lizzie", entered service in 1938 and was used extensively during the Second World War.
Possibly best remembered for the many daring clandestine night flying missions over France, especially for the insertion and extraction of SOE agents and vital supplies.

1935 Gloster Gladiator used by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm off the RN's capital-ship aircraft carriers. The famous Gloster Gladiators: "Faith", "Hope" and "Charity" were the only 3 allied aircraft defending the skies over Malta until reinforcements eventually came through.

1941 Hawker Sea Hurricane 1b – used off Royal Navy aircraft carriers to protect the Atlantic merchant shipping convoys against the U Boat threat. Some were even capapulted
off large merchant ships.

The USAF B-25 bomber was used extensively during World War II; famously on the "Doolittle" raid on Tokyo after which many had to be ditched in the sea.
