CFM books $1.5 billion in new orders at Farnborough Air Show

CFM International has recorded new orders for 232 engines valued at more than $1.5 billion at the Farnborough Air Show. These orders bring the company's total to 732 engines for the year, which represents nearly 60 percent of the market for 100+ passenger aircraft.

CFM International produces CFM56 engines and is a 50/50 joint company between Snecma Moteurs of France and General Electric of the United States. Following is a recap of the orders announced:

• Finnair signed an agreement today with CFM to exercise options for CFMS6-5B engines to power six Airbus A319/A320/A321 aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2002/2003. This engine order is valued at $60 million.

• GE Capital Aviation Services ,Inc. (GECAS) placed a $650 million order for CFMS6-7 engines to power 65 Boeing Next-Generation 737s, including engines for 45 new firm aircraft, six previously announced aircraft (announced as unidentified customer), and 14 options exercised.

• GECAS also places a $450 million order for CFM56-5B engines to power 30 firm A318 and 12 A3 19/A320/A321 aircraft.

• GATX/Flightlease has ordered CFM56-5B engines to power 14 firm, 10 option Airbus Industrie A320 family aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at $140 million.

• International Lease Finance Corporation (JLFC) today placed a $60 million order for CFNI56-7 engines to power seven Firm Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.

• Kuwait Finance House has announced it will purchase four Airbus A320 aircraft with CFM56-5B engines in an engine order valued at approximately $40 million. The company has appointed its leasing subsidiary, Aviation Leasing & Finance Company (AL\FCO), to manage its fleet and transactions.

• Debis AirFinance, a fast-growing aircraft leasing company based in Amsterdam, is a subsidiary of Daimler Chrysler and major German banks, confirmed the purchase of CFM56-SB engines to power 10 A320 family.

• The U.S. Air Force has released funding to purchase 36 additional CFM56-2 engines to re-engine four KC-135 tanker and five RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft for delivery in the 2001/2002 time frame.
