22 July 2002
On the opening day of Farnborough 2002 the Malaysian Minister of Defence, Yang Berhomat Dato Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, officially unveiled one of the six Super Lynx 300 helicopters destined for the Royal Malaysian Navy in a short VIP ceremony conducted at the AgustaWestland Pavilion. This is the first public display of Super Lynx 300 and the aircraft, ZJ905, is the second to be produced for Malaysia, the launch customer for Super Lynx 300.
Malaysia confirmed its order for six Super Lynx 300 helicopters in September 1999 in a contract valued at some £100 million. Six Malaysian companies are currently involved in providing a range of aerospace products and services including manufacture of components associated with the Lynx programme.
In 1998, Westland launched the Super Lynx 300 programme representing a new generation of the Lynx. In addition to Malaysia, the Royal Thai Navy confirmed its order for two Super Lynx 300 in August 2001. The Sultanate of Oman signed an agreement in January 2002 to provide the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) with sixteen Super Lynx 300 helicopters to replace RAFO's current helicopters.
Developed from the Super Lynx 100, Super Lynx 300 incorporates an all new integrated "glass" cockpit and the more powerful CTS800-4N engines.
