    Embraer chooses Goodrich avionics systems

23 July 2002

Embraer Aircraft Company has selected the Goodrich Stormscope model WX-1000E and J.E.T. Standby Attitude Indicator model AI-803DA as standard equipment aboard its new Super Tucano Aircraft. The Long-Term Supplier Agreement began in the first quarter of 2002 and will be supported for the next 30 years.

The Goodrich systems will be installed on the 99 planned Embraer Super Tucanos, with the majority of the aircraft being delivered to the Brazilian Air Force. The Stormscope will display lightning information directly on the aircrafts' Collins Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS) displays. The AI-803 Indicator will be installed alongside the EFIS displays, providing emergency attitude information in the event of a primary failure.

The Stormscope model WX-1000E weather mapping system, operating in a passive mode, locates thunderstorm activity by analyzing the radiated signals of electrical discharges from storm cells. Its ability to determine both azimuth and range is made possible through complex algorithms. This information is then processed to determine the location and intensity of dangerous thunderstorm cells and plotted on a variety of displays, relative to the aircraft's own position.

The Goodrich JET Model AI-803 was specifically designed as a standby attitude indicator for high performance aircraft, serving military fleets around the world. As a compact 2-inch, completely case-contained instrument, the unit provides up to nine minutes of usable attitude information after a complete power loss, giving the pilot valuable response time in an emergency situation.
