Jet Airways orders 10 Embraer 175 aircraft

24 July 2002

India's Jet Airways has ordered 10 EMBRAER 175 aircraft, with options for 10 additional units. The order is valued at approximately US$ 260 million, and may reach US$ 520 million if the options are converted. Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2004 and stretch throughout 2007. Negotiations aiming at a formal contract will take place in the coming weeks.

"To see Embraer's entry in the important Asian market ...constitutes a remarkable milestone..,", said Maur¡cio Botelho, president and CEO of Embraer.

Jet Airways has selected the GE powered standard model EMBRAER 175. Like the smaller 70-seat EMBRAER 170, the EMBRAER 175 has four main doors and no over-wing exits in order to offer airlines maximum cabin configuration flexibility for dual class, single class, or high-density seating arrangements. Both aircraft types share the same crew type rating.

Jet Airways is India's largest private domestic airline, operating an average of 245 flights per day and connects 41 destinations within India. The average age of the fleet is 2.9 years making it the operator of the youngest aircraft fleet for the size and type of aircraft operated.

"The Indian domestic air market has a huge growth potential and we are optimistic about rapid growth of markets that require a 70-80 seater aircraft." said Naresh Goyal, Chairman of Jet Airways. "For a long time, we have been very keen to induct the regional jet aircraft into our fleet and are pleased to have selected the Embraer 175. It meets our requirements both from a technical and economic perspective."

To date, the EMBRAER 170/190 family has 112 firm orders and 202 options from SWISS, GECAS, Air Caraibes.
