Smiths provides data system for OH-58D

24 July 2002

Smiths Aerospace has been selected by Honeywell to provide the PCMCIA based data transfer system (PC-DTS) for the US Army OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter. The current development contract is valued just under $5 million, with the opportunity for generating more than $15 million including development, initial and follow on production from the Army.

The system is developed and manufactured at the company's Maryland facility. Delivery of the first systems will begin in October 2002, with production deliveries beginning in June 2003. Production is anticipated for approximately 400 systems.

The PC-DTS is the first system of its type to house up to 4 PCMCIA cards in this space allotment. The configuration includes both MIL-STD-1553 and SCSI interfaces, and its modular design facilitates future upgrades to additional interfaces such as ethernet or fibre channel.
