AMS to provide ATCR-44 S long range radar in Hong-Kong

25 July 2002

AMS has been awarded a contract worth US$6 million by the Civil Aviation Department of Hong-Kong to supply and install an L-Band Solid State Long Range Radar (ATCR 44-S) on Mount Parker.

The ATCR-44 S will enter service in the middle of 2003 and will operate in parallel with the existing Long Range Radar installed at Sha Chau in 1998.

Radar data coming from the two different radar heads will be combined and correlated in order to enhance the en-route surveillance of aircraft flying over the area for the new Hong-Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok. This allows better precision, a wider coverage area, the reduction of blind zones and the continuity of tracking during the transition from one radar coverage area to another.
