CMC Electronics' position on the UH-60L/M Black Hawk helicopter was enhanced with the award of two programmes. Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation has awarded CMC a $6 million (CDN) contract to upgrade the software language to ADA in the Control Display Units supplied for the UH-60L Black Hawk Medevac helicopter in service with the U.S. Army. CMC has also won a follow-on programme valued at $650,000 (CDN) to develop a power PC enhancement for the Flight Management Systems on board the same Black Hawk model.
CMC Electronics President and CEO Jim Close stated: "By upgrading the main processor from the 486 family to the Power PC, the Control Display Unit is well positioned to satisfy the needs of the Black Hawk for years to come."
CMC is one of Sikorsky's major suppliers on several helicopter programmes. Their relationship goes back some 40 years to the S-61 Sea King, which led to developmental work that resulted in CMC avionics equipment being used on Sikorsky's UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter to this day.
