Thales and Gulf Aircraft Maintenance Co (Gamco) have created Gamco Thales Systems, a joint venture company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the ability to locally manage integration of high tech electronic systems for defence and aeronautics as well as providing maintenance and after-sales support of systems and training of system users.
Gamco Thales Systems will provide for technical and industrial development, integrated logistic support, maintenance and repairas well as operational training activities.
The new company is based in Abu Dhabi. Gamco holds 51 % of the capital and Thales the remaining 49 %. The company is managed by a 4-member board of directors, two of each shareholder. Gamco Thales Systems will primarily focus on defense and aerospace electronics business in the UAE.
With a defence budget exceeding US$1.5 billion per year, the UAE has one of the most technologically advanced forces in the world. The partners have already identified opportunities to participate in the integration installation of a land communication system and in several aircraft-related programmes.
