PW306C Turbofan wins Canadian and US type certification

26 July 2002

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has received type certification for its new PW306C turbofan engine from both Transport Canada (TC) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States. P&WC was awarded TC type certification on 21 June while FAA type certification followed on 12 July with Europe's Joint Airworthiness Authorities approval to follow.

The PW306C is the newest member of the eight-model PW300 engine family from P&WC. The engine family offers takeoff thrusts ranging from 4,600 to 7,000 lb. to operators in the corporate and regional markets. P&WC's PW306C turbofan is flat rated to 5,686 lb. thrust at takeoff available to ISA+15C.

Cessna selected the PW306C engine to power its new Citation Sovereign corporate jet in October 1998. The aircraft took its inaugural flight powered by two PW306Cs on February 27 this year, in Wichita, Kansas. The 10-passenger Citation Sovereign is scheduled for certification by the third quarter of 2003 with service entry planned for early 2004.
