Rolls-Royce has won business worth $240 million to supply up to sixty AE 3007 engines to power Embraer ERJ 140 aircraft recently purchased by Trans States Airlines and Chautauqua Airlines; both are subsidiaries of American Airlines.
The aircraft order amounts to ten ERJ 140s for Trans States Airlines, with options for a further 25 aircraft, and options on twenty-five ERJ 140s for Chautauqua Airlines. Both regional airliners have placed their orders to supplement their existing Embraer fleets. The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in mid 2002.
Mike Terrett of Rolls-Royce, said: "Strong market acceptance of Embraer's 37-50 seat regional jets has ensured that the AE 3007 is now one of our fastest growing engine programmes."
Firm orders and options for the 8,000lb thrust AE 3007 now total 1600. It is the sole engine on Embraer's regional jets comprising the ERJ 135, ERJ 140 and ERJ 145. The engine also powers the new Embraer ECJ Legacy, the Cessna Citation X business jet and the Brazilian SIVAM military surveillance aircraft.
A growth version of the engine has been developed for the Northrop Grumman Global Hawk unmanned surveillance aircraft, winner of the 2000 Collier Award.
