Honeywell has been selected by Lockheed Martin to provide an upgraded environmental control system (ECS) for the C-5 Reliability Enhancement and Reengineering Programme (RERP).
The agreement, with a potential value of $110 million for development and production, was announced at the Paris Air Show. It includes a new engine bleed air subsystem, as well as upgrades to the existing air conditioning and cabin pressure control subsystems for the C-5 US Air Force cargo aircraft. The engine bleed air, cabin pressure, and air conditioning systems were awarded for technical merit.
The new engine bleed air subsystem will provide greater control and flow of engine bleed air to other systems, and will be compatible with the new GE CF680C2 engines that will be installed as part of the C-5 RERP.The air conditioning and cabin pressure upgrades target reliability enhancements and address obsolescence issues within the existing systems.
"As a leader in state-of-the-art environmental control systems, Honeywell is pleased to provide its industry benchmark bleed air and air conditioning technologies for a cargo aircraft that is so important to the US military," said Jacques Esculier, vice president and general manager, for Honeywell's environmental control systems/electric power business.
