Elisra EW systems on Canadian Forces helicopters

21 June 2001

Elisra Electronic Systems has been selected by the Canadian Forces (CF), through the Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), to upgrade existing EW systems currently operated on CH146 Griffon helicopters. The CH146 is the CF variant on the Bell 412EP helicopter.

Elisra is equipping the CH146 with the sophisticated SPS-65 integrated Radar and Laser Warning Receiver (RLWR), as well as providing an effort to integrate missile warning and expendable countermeasures systems. This will provide an unprecedented state-of-the-art self protection capability with excellent operational performance and reliability for the CH146.

The overall programme will be completed in two phases. Phase I was completed recently with the delivery of 10 Radar and Laser Warning Receivers (RLWRs) complete with associated documentation and services, including support for the installation and aircraft modification with Bell Helicopters in Canada. Phase 2 will deliver an additional seven systems as well as hardware and software upgrades, for a total of 17 systems. Both phases have a total cost of $25 million CAD.

The contract for Phase 2 is the result of intensive efforts made by the hi-tech Canadian firm, ITS Electronics Inc as the prime contractor.

"We regard the Elisra-ITS co-operation, with its combined expertise in electronics and systems integration, as a strong player in the international marketplace, and we are confident that the relationship between our companies will be instrumental in opening the door to new business opportunities in the future", said Brig. Gen. Avner Raz President & CEO of Elisra Group.

Northrop Grumman PRB Systems is the sub-contractor responsible for providing the operational mission specific software for use on the RLWR.
