Meggitt unveils Voodoo high speed target

21 June 2001

Meggitt Defence Systems has unveiled its all new target, 'Voodoo', at the Paris Air Show. Voodoo has been specifically designed to meet a growing market requirement for a medium speed, low cost target system.

The 330kt free flying target has an endurance of 90 minutes, is capable of sea skimming at five metres, high dive profiles of 55 degrees and can reach an operating altitude of 30,000 ft. At one and a half times the size of the Banshee, Voodoo is powered by a new 145hp powerplant with an altitude compensating fuel injection system. The Voodoo engine has been specifically manufactured for Meggitt Defence Systems by Ilmor Engineering, providers of Formula One racing engines for Mercedes.

Voodoo is a development of Meggitt's popular Banshee which is now in service in 38 countries. Voodoo is launched by a catapult launcher and is capable of being controlled by existing Banshee Ground Stations. All payloads, enhancements and counter measure systems fitted to Banshee are interchangeable with Voodoo, which is also especially suited to towing sub targets.

The first all new target in 15 years, Voodoo is currently undergoing wind tunnel testing and is scheduled to make its first flight immediately after the Paris Air Show.
