Smiths Aerospace Integrates solid-state recorder on F-22

22 June 2001

Video data from the analogue Head-Up Display and digital Secondary Multifunction Displays has been recorded for the first time on an F-22 using the Data Transfer Equipment with Mass Memory and Video Recorder (DMVR) produced by Smiths Aerospace.

This follows the integration of the DMVR and displays at the Smiths Aerospace Germantown facility Maryland in January of this year. The DMVR is being developed under an EMD contract valued at more than $1in 3 million with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company.

Installed on Raptor 4006 running Block 3.0 software at the Lockheed Martin Marietta, facility, multiple display data was recorded on solid-state memory in a compressed format then successfully played back on the Fairchild-developed Operational Debrief Station. The cockpit mounted DMVR combines data transfer and video recorder functionality into a single unit eliminating the need for trouble-prone videotape recorders.
