CMC Electronics Inc. will deliver its SureSight I-series Enhanced Vision System (EVS) Infrared (IR) sensor in July 2003 for integration with the Thales Avionics EVS as part of the Bombardier Enhanced Vision System (BEVS). Launched at the NBAA in October 2002, the Bombardier Aerospace BEVS will be integrated on its ultra long-range Global Express business jet and the Global 5000.
The Thales EVS is comprised of a HUD, which provides a display capability in all-phases of flight, and the CMC Electronics SureSight I-series EVS IR sensor, which provides image quality and weather penetration. Development flight testing of a prototype installation of the aerodynamic components of the BEVS began on Bombardier's Global Express flight test aircraft, serial number 9001, in April 2003.
CMC has developed the SureSight I-series sensor for a wide variety of aircraft to increase flight crew situational awareness by heightening their ability to see through fog, haze, precipitation, day and night, to increase the probability of landing in foul weather and to improve overall safety. CMC's SureSight I-series sensor provides an image to a Head Up Display (HUD), a Head Down Display (HDD) or both, to enable pilots to see the terrain and airport environment in low visibility situations and at night. EVS significantly improves situational awareness, not only during take-off, approach and landing, but also during ground manoeuvring.
CMC Electronics' modular development approach leads to fully integrated Enhanced Vision Systems for aircraft equipped with raster-capable displays in the general aviation, air transport and military markets. The first modules are infrared sensors, to be followed by a Millimeter Wave Radar sensor, which will provide the ultimate in situational awareness and safety.
