Rolls-Royce wins $88 million regional jet engine orderJune 15th, 1999
Rolls-Royce plc today announced business valued at up to US $88 million for Rolls-Royce AE 3007 engines to power Embraer RJ-145 regional jets. Italian regional operator Alitalia Express has ordered six aircraft with options for an additional ten. First aircraft deliveries are scheduled for April, 2000. Carmen Lloyd, President - Corporate and Regional Airlines, said: "We are pleased that Alitalia Express chose to join the growing list of regional airlines operating the AE 3007-powered ERJ-145. This order reinforces the market's acceptance that Embraer and Rolls-Royce offer a winning airframe and engine combination in the 50-seat regional jet marketplace." The Rolls-Royce AE 3007 engine is the sole powerplant for the 50-passenger ERJ-145 aircraft and the 37-passenger ERJ-135. Firm orders and options now total more than 500 for the ERJ-145. Embraer has also received over 309 firm orders and options for the ERJ-135. A growth engine, the AE3OO7A1, which provides the Embraer RJ-145LR (long range) regional jet with increased thrust at hot and high operating conditions (7,450 lb rated to ISA +300C), has been certified by both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Joint Aviation Authority (JAA). The AE3OO7A1 uses a new high pressure turbine with advanced single-crystal airfoils and optimised cooling air. A variant of this engine, the AE3007A113, has recently also been approved by the FAA for the ERJ-1 35LR.
