Rohde & Schwarz radio equipment for Eurofighter Typhoon

    Rohde & Schwarz has been selected as the supplier of the radio equipment for the Eurofighter Typhoon, Europe's most advanced combat aircraft that now goes into series production. The company has won an order for 317 transceivers worth more than 100 million DEM for the first batch of 147 aircraft. The VHF/UHF equipment provides clear and encrypted transmission and reception of voice signals.

    Rhode & Schwarz radios for Eurofighter

    In the coming ten years a total of 620 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft will be built for Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Spain and will be equipped with the VHF/UHF transceivers from Rohde & Schwarz. Greece has signed an agreement for between 60 and 90 aircraft and the consortium has offered Norway a comprehensive package for 20 aircraft , with options for 10 more.

    A European consortium comprising Rohde & Schwarz and its partners GEC Marconi, ELMER and ENOSA was chosen to design the radio-communication system of the aircraft. With the order Rohde & Schwarz as the leader of the consortium has also been selected as the supplier for the series production.

    Both technology and equipment for the VHF/UHF clear and encrypted transceivers were specially developed by Rohde & Schwarz for the Eurofighter Typhoon project.

    The transceivers feature the latest NATO EPM (Electronic Protection Measures) technology SATURN (Second Generation of Anti-Jam Tactical UHF Radio for NATO), with fast frequency hopping for optimum protection against jamming. The fully integrated encryption function, which meets the relevant NATO standard, offers maximum protection against hostile monitoring and deception.
