Rolls-Royce wins £30m Pegasus engine support contract

    June 17th, 1999

The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded a multi-year support contract for the repair and overhaul of Pegasus engines, modules and components to Rolls-Royce plc, the civil aerospace, defence and energy group, the company announced at the Paris Air Show.

The Ministry order, worth more than £30 million, covers five years, with an option taken on a further five years. It continues the support Rolls-Royce has provided in previous years for engines powering the Harriers of the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

Work associated with the new order - which includes conversions from Mk103/104 to Mk106 standard of Pegasus for the Royal Navy - will be undertaken at the company's East Kilbride facility in Scotland, a specialist aero repair and overhaul unit.

Engines will arrive from RAF and RN squadrons, with modules requiring repair and overhaul coming from the services' dedicated second-line units at RAF Wittering and RNAS Yeovilton. East Kilbride has a full range of component repair operations to undertake the rework of individual parts. The site also undertakes Pegasus engine overhaul and repair for overseas navies.

Ian Lloyd, Managing Director of Rolls-Royce Aero Repair and Overhaul, said: "We are delighted to have won this important contract that allows us to continue supporting the Ministry's Pegasus engine fleet for up to ten years. It is the latest in a series of multi- year contracts for the repair and overhaul of engines from the Rolls-Royce military engines family operated by the UK armed services, and it is work that is vital for our future business volumes."
