Rolls-Royce to open new V2500 repair facility

    June 17th, 1999

Rolls-Royce plc is expanding its repair and overhaul capability for V2500 engines with a new $20 million facility in Brazil, the company announced today at the Paris air show. Sao Paulo based Motores Rolls-Royce is to build a new V2500 repair and test cell at Guarulhos airport, in addition to upgrading existing facilities at Sao Bernardo. The new facility is scheduled to be commissioned and fully operational towards the end of 2000.

V2500 repair and overhaul capability is being established primarily to support the selection of 38 firm and 37 option V2500 powered Airbus Industrie A320 family aircraft by Brazilian operator, TAM Brazil. The order was part of a deal with a Latin American alliance consisting of LanChile, El Salvadore based Grupo Taca and TAM for up to 177 aircraft.

Ian Lloyd, Managing Director Rolls-Royce Aero Repair and Overhaul said: "This latest investment programme in Brazil will upgrade our regional services for V2500 customers. It underscores our commitment to provide tailored aftermarket solutions for our customers in key locations."

Motores Rolls-Royce has provided aftermarket expertise for TAM Brazil over the last 18 years, most recently for Tay engines in the airline's Fokker 100 fleet. The facility also reworks a wide range of other engines including the Rolls-Royce Model 250 and AE3007, Dart, Gem, Spey and Viper for a range of civil, military and industrial customers.

The new V2500 repair and overhaul capability in Brazil will add to the existing range of V2500 aftermarket services in East Kilbride, Scotland and Hong Kong Aero Engine Services.
