Bombardier Challenger for Korean National Maritime Police

    Bombardier Aerospace t has won a contract from the Government of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) to deliver a Challenger 604 widebody business jet for a maritime surveillance role.

    The aircraft will enter service with South Korea's Korean National Maritime Police agency (KNMP) in the second quarter of 2001. This is the first of up to five aircraft required by KNMP for maritime surveillance of the Korean peninsula.

    The Challenger 604 will be equipped with a search radar, forward looking infrared (FLIR), special communications and an onboard facility to deploy rescue equipment at sea.

    Installing this specialised equipment is Aerodata Flugmesstechnik of Braunschwieg, Germany. Bombardier will deliver the Challenger 604 from its Montreal factory to Aerodata in the second quarter 2000.

    Aerodata focuses on special mission systems for airborne measurements, surveillance and research. The company is the prime contractor for the German Polar Research Aircraft and has performed numerous demanding modifications to these aircraft since the formation of the company in 1985.
