Marconi Canada FMS for Swiss Army Super Puma

    June 18th, 1999

Canadian Marconi Company has been selected by Eurocopter to supply 15 CMA-3000 Flight Management Systems (FMS) for the Super Puma MK I Swiss Army helicopter. Both Eurocopter and the Swiss Army chose the CMA-3000 because of its Active Matrix Liquid Colour Display (AMLCD) and its capability to operate as a standard FMS. The units will interface with the GPS/INS, radio navigation equipment, digital map and EFIS.

The Marconi Canada CMA-3000 Flight Management System consists of an ARINC 739 Multi-function Control Display Unit (MCDU) that combines both the MCDU and Flight Management Unit functions in a single unit.

Its design is based on Marconi Canada's CMA-900 FMS product line and is currently installed on the EC-135 helicopter for the Bavarian Police. This system is ideal for small aircraft that need an integrated navigation system to support certified flights in the communications, navigation surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) environment. The unit provides required navigation performance (RNP) management and has been certified to TSO-C113, TSO-Cll5b and TSO-C129 Class Al.

Delivery of the first CMA-3000 for the Super Puma is scheduled for September 1999, and the full system integration at Eurocopter will be completed in February 2000. This programme builds on Marconi Canada's recent work with Eurocopter in providing this product for the Bavarian Police.

Eurocopter, which is jointly owned by Aerospatiale Matra (70%) and DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (30%), is exploring new ventures in Canada, in which it hopes to include Canadian Marconi Company products.
