Goodbye to a successful Paris Air Show: Now for Dubai 2000

    June 18th, 1999

As a very successful Paris Air Show ends, many of the major participants are already turning their thoughts to the next International Air Show, and the last of the millennium, Dubai 2000. Since, according to industry estimates, the Middle East region needs to spend $72 billion to upgrade its aircraft and airports in the coming year, Dubai will be the place to showcase the aerospace.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, the Government of Dubai and, the Chairman of Emirates, took the opportunity of a Gala Reception at the Bristol Hotel in Paris on Wednesday to brief over 400 distinguished guests - including top executives from the aviation industry, military delegations and exhibitors - on the Dubai 2000 International Aerospace Exhibition, which is being held on 14-18 November 1999, on a brand new purpose built site.

HH Sheikh Ahmed commented: "It is important to mention that Dubai 2000 will draw the curtains on airshows and aerospace deals in the present century and hence start a new era of expectations and challenges in the next millennium. In our effort to provide exhibitors with world class facilities, Dubai 2000 will inaugurate the new airshow site. These new buildings will be located in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport. The exhibition halls have been designed for convenience and comfort, providing state-of-the-art facilities and amenities. I look forward to welcoming all exhibitors, regular and new, in November 1999 for the Dubai 2000 Aerospace Exhibition."

To date, more than ninety per cent of the available space for the Dubai 2000 Air Show has already been reserved.

The Dubai Department of Civil Aviation is determined to ensure that the new airshow site will surpass facilities offered by Le Bourget, Farnborough and Singapore. Drawing upon their experience and that of the show organiser, Virginia Kern - Managing Director, Fairs and Exhibitions Limited - the individual requirements of both exhibitor and visitor are being well catered for. Virginia Kern told DSD that "A whole new range of high technology facilities has been designed to reflect the increasing importance of the biennial event. The state-of-the-art facilities offered to participants will set a precedent for following airshows in the world."

The Dubai exhibition will be the second in size to Farnborough, but in terms of facilities and service, Dubai 2000 will be ranked first since it is the only airshow with its own purpose built site and exhibition halls. Dubai 2000 will offer two exhibition halls, each offering 11,750 sq metres of built up exhibition space - a total area of 23,500 sq metres.

This state-of-the-art exhibition centre has been conceived within a cohesive, dynamic plan designed to enhance the distinctive atmosphere which has been a feature of previous exhibitions and lead the Dubai Air Show into the 21st Century.
