Radamec Defence Systems has delivered and installed the last of four 1500 EO tracking and fire control systems for the Irish Naval Service (INS). This follows the successful sea and firing trials by the INS' new P51 Class Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV), LE Roisin, which is now commissioned.
The other three vessels now equipped with Radamec equipment are the INS P41/2 Class coastal patrol vessels, LE Ciara and LE Orla (both ex-RN Peacock Class), and the P52 Class, LE Naemh. Both the LE Roisin and the LE Naemh have been built by Appledore Shipbuilders of Devon.
The 1500 EO tracking and fire control system is designed specifically for OPVs and other similar classes of vessels. Radamec says it is confident that orders for this system can be expected to increase considerably during the next few years as national agencies step up their EEZ, fishery protection, illegal immigration and anti-drug trafficking capabilities.
