The relatively new Rolls-Royce Snecma joint venture company, which was formally incorporated on 9 May 2001, is looking to establish an acquisition plan for future military aero-engine technologies.
Pictured left at the formal signing ceremony on 15 February is Rolls-Royce CEO John Rose (front left) and Snecma Moteurs Chairman and CEO Dominique Paris (front right) shaking hands on the 50:50 joint venture agreement.
CEO, Guillaume Giscard d'Estaing, said, "The purpose of the joint venture is to be in a position to develop an engine for any future combat aircraft in which the UK and French governments both participate. Rolls-Royce Snecma will act as prime contractor and single point of contact for the governments, and will be in charge of whole engine integration studies."
"The programmes Rolls-Royce Snecma will run are related to military combat engines. The first years will be devoted to the implementation of a technology acquisition plan in line with the strategy of the new company. The company is set to carry the existing joint AMET (Advanced Military Engine Technology) programme into its next phase, and will be responsible for collaborative propulsion studies on the Future Offensive Air System (FOAS)."
Work associated with Rolls-Royce Snecma's technology programmes will be sub-contracted to the parent companies, though the agreement could be extended to other companies as programmes evolve.
